Alwin "Al" Lopez Jarreau or Al Jarreau, born on
March 12, 1940, was an American jazz musician and singer who won the Grammy
Awards for seven times for three different musical categories (jazz, pop, and R
& B). Jarreau was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the fifth of six children
of a father who is a singer as well as the advent of the church and the mother
of a church pianist. He and his family always sang together in church concerts.
When in college, he also sang with a vocal group called the Indigos. After
graduation he worked as a rehabilitation counselor in San Francisco and moonlighted
with a jazz trio headed by George Duke. In 1967, he joined the acoustic
guitarist Julio Martinez, and the duo became the most famous star in a night
club called Gatsby in Sausalito. This success contributed to Jarreau's decision
to sing professionally and began his career in the music world totally until
